Ajmer Sharif, Ajmer HolidaysThe beautiful city of Ajmer was built by Raja Ajay Pal Chauhan in the Seventh Century. Historically saying this city in Rajasthan has always been known in the history for its strategic importance. The city of Ajmer is famous for travel and tourism because of its pilgrimage. Both Hindus as well as Muslims look upon this city with great belief. The most famous pilgrim center in the city is the Dargah (memorial) of the great Sufi saint Khwaja Moin-ud-din Chisti. With holy Pushkar temples on one hand and the Durgah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti on the other, it's an example of a great blend of Sufi culture alongwith Hindu religion.

Ajmer city in Rajasthan experiences very high temperature during summers and very low during winters. The best season to visit this place is between October and March. .

PLACES TO SEE IN AJMER
Ajmer is a city rich in culture and tradition. There are a number of places to see in and around Ajmer:

Taragarh Fort
Taragarh Fort is on a hill which is about one and half hour climb. This fort which was initially the site for military activities was later on converted by Britishers into a sanatorium.

Adhai Din Ka Jhonpda
A remarkable structure, this is a masterpiece of Indo Islamic architecture located on the outskirts of the city. Just beyond the Dargah. As the legend goes, its construction took two and a half days. The district pillars and arched "screen with its ruined minarets make it a splendid architectural masterpiece.

Dargah Sharif
At the foot of a barren hill, is situated India's most important Piligrimage centre for people from all faith. It is the splendid tomb of the Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, more popularly known as Khwaja Sharif.

The Museum
Once the royal residence of Emperor Akbar, the museum houses a rich repository of the Mughal and Rajput armor and exquisite sculptures.

The Circuit House
The former British Residency, overlooking the artificial lake, Ana sagar, has now been converted to the circuit House. The lake and the cenotaph and the shrine of the Hindu reformer Swami Dayanand, founder of the Arya Samaj movement in India, can be viewed from here.

Mayo College
One of Indian's best public schools located in the south east of the city. It was founded in 1875 A.D. only for the princes. Each prince along with his entire retinue and an English tutor had his own house in the spacious college grounds covering 81 hectares. Now it is a public school open to all.

Shahjahan Mosque
In the corner of the inner court of the Dargah, is a magnificent building in white marble with a long (30.5) and narrow court having low arcade and delicate carvings with trellis work. It is the most marvelous all the sanctums within the sanctuary of the Dargah.

HOW TO REACH

By Air
The nearest airport from Ajmer is Jaipur. Jaipur is well connected to all the major cities which include Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta, Jodhpur, and Udaipur. Recently, flights to Dubai have also started from Ajmer by Indian Airlines.
By Train
Ajmer is on the Broad Gauge and hence connected to all the metro cities of India. There are daily trains from Delhi in morning (Shatabdhi Exp) and evening (Intercity Exp).
By Road
There are deluxe buses available from Jaipur that run every 15 minutes, some are nonstop as well. In comparison to couple of years ago, the roads now are very good, and it takes around 2 hrs to reach Ajmer from Jaipur. You can also come by taxi.
