city of Jodhpur has its history dating back from the Rathore Clan. Rao
Jodha, the chief of the Rathores, found Jodhpur in 1459 and the city was
thus named after him. In 1947 India became independent and the state
merged into the union of India. Jodhpur became the second city of
Rajasthan.Jodhpur is known for its rich architectural and historical monuments. The excellent craftsmanship of the Jodhpur forts and monuments is sure to enchant the tourists. There are number of famous palaces of Jodhpur that are worth seeing. Government pays a lot of attention for the upkeep of these valuable forts and palaces and preserving the rich cultural heritage of the royal families of Jodhpur. PLACES TO SEE IN JODHPUR Mehrangarh Fort Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur is one of the largest forts in whole Rajasthan. Its one of the important tourist attraction amongst Jodhpur. Founded by Rao Jodha in 1459, it is situated on a 150 m high hill. The Mehrangarh Fort can be reached from the city, 5 kms below, through a circular road. Jaswant Thada Famous Jaswant Thada in Jodhpur is a lively example of architectural brilliance in India. It is a white marble memorial that is built out of intricately carved sheets of marble. Our excellent sculptors have shown their genius while carving even the smallest stones that were extremely thin and polished. The Rai ka Bag Palace of Jodhpur is also one of the major tourist attraction. This palace was built by the queen of Maharaja Jaswant Singh-I in 1663. It was amongst the favorite palaces of King Jaswant Singh-II. Most of the time he stayed in the octagonal bungalow of Rai Ka Bag palace. HOW TO REACH By Air The Jodhpur Airport is 5 km from the city center. Regular flight services connect the city with other major cities in and around Rajasthan.
