a beautiful town in Rajasthan, speaks for the colorful history. It is
located on the eastern bank of the Chambal River. Kota is well known for
its ancient palaces, havelis or mansions and castles. During 17th
century it was declared as a separate state by Emperor Jahangir and was
then ruled by Rao Madho Singh. In comparison to those times, the city is
a modern settlement now and is now famous for its natural and man made
marvels.Dussehra is one of the prime festivals of Rajasthan and is celebrated with great pomp and magnificence in Kota. It showcases the ninth day of the battle between Rama and the Ravana. On the tenth day, Ramlila enactments are done along-with other devotional programs. PLACES TO SEE IN KOTA Maharao Madho Singh Museum Maharaja Madho Singh Museum is located in the old palace, with an excellent collection of Rajput miniature paintings of the Kota school, superb sculptures, frescoes and armoury. It is marked as one of the best museums in the state and is frequently visited by foreign tourists. The museum is closed on Fridays and state holidays. Chambal Garden The Chambal Gardens are on the banks of the Chambal River, south of the fort. These gardens are popular for picnic spot. The centerpiece is a murky pond stocked with crocodiles with a small over head bridge to cross. There are also some rare gharials. Kota Barrage is another tourist attraction but mainly provides an excellent setting for outings and evening strolls. It is part of the irrigation canal system on the Chambal River. Kota Barrage not controls floodwater and irrigates canals; but also serves as an alternative bridge in the monsoon season.
