Shekhawati is a beautiful town in Rajasthan that has number of lovely havelis dating back from the historical times. Shekhawati is also called the tourists’ paradise. With so many magnificent havelis and palaces around, its impossible to keep yourself away from taking a tour.

Large number of tourist from within India and abroad come to see this beautiful place laced with innumerable grand mansions. These sculptors represent the mythology and fauna that lies at the very core of this wonderful art. Many stories are famous about the bravery and valor of Lord Rama and the miracles of Lord Krishna unfold on a journey of these marvelous mansions.

PLACES TO SEE IN SHEKHAWATI

nawalgarhNawalgarh
Founded in the 18th century by Nawal Singh, this place was named after him. Many tourists come each year to see the huge fort with colorful bazaar and numerous havelis with intricate architecture. Famous among all are Anandilal Poddar Haveli, Aath Haveli, Hodh Raj Patodia Haveli etc.

Mukungarh
Mukungarh is built around one of the temple square which is just a few kilometers from the Navalgarh. Mukungarh also has a magnificent fort, which now has been converted into a resort hotel with all modern amenities. There are a few prominent properties here in the form of havelis of Kanoria and Ganriwal, which carried a fine example of fresco paintings.

Mandawa
Mandawa has now been converted into a heritage hotel. There are beautiful paintings with interesting forms of Lord Krishna and his cowherds. Different parts of this place have different drawings altogether. The Mandawa family till date has preserved a unique collection of these paintings and antiques and have them displayed in the then durbar hall and now an exotic lounge. The hotel is well equipped with modern facilities in an ethnic set-up.

HOW TO REACH

By Air
The nearest airport from the region is in Jaipur, the state capital. The domestic airport is serviced regularly by a number of airlines. Several flights connect Jaipur to cities like, Delhi, Mumbai, and Udaipur.
By Train
Two major Railway Stations nearby are Jaipur and Bikaner. Numerous important trains link these stations with Delhi, Mumbai, Jodhpur, Udaipur and so on.
By Road
An extensive network of roads covers the region. The best way to access Shekhawati by road is from Jaipur or from Bikaner. Both of the cities are well networked by roads with many other cities in Rajasthan and northern part of India.
